Yesterday, one of us got the chance to watch an early screening of Cherry. Alex wrote for us a review about Cherry. It seems like a really amazing movie. All we have to do is to wait for it’s release on March 12th. Enjoy!
The following review is Spoiler-Free:
I was lucky enough to watch an early screener of “Cherry” today and to be honest I don’t even know where to start. This movie has left me just as heartbroken as it has left me proud. Tom’s performance is OUTSTANDING… and I can’t stress this enough, IT IS OUT OF THIS WORLD! Same goes for Ciara. The cinematography by Newton Thomas Sigel was absolutely gorgeous and Henry Jackman’s score left me with so many goosebumps and tears in my eyes. As someone who has read the book these character and their story had such a special place in my heart and I’m so happy that the Russos managed to even exceed my expectations! This is a movie that sticks with you for a long time and that you can’t get out of your head. Just thinking about it makes my eyes watery again. Tom has once again just left me speechless… and it’s safe to say that he is indeed one of the if not the most talented actor of his generation, and he’s gonna prove to the world what he’s capable of with this movie! I can’t wait for y’all to see it and just feel as proud of him as I do right now.
I don’t think that I’ve ever felt this broken after a movie before. Cherry and Emily’s story is so tragic and sad that it just rips you apart. I love how they altered the ending from the one in the book… this one feels just so much better in my opinion and leaves you with a sense of optimism that the book didn’t… and after watching their downfall for almost a 140 minutes this truly is something that you need!
Just in case since I know a lot of people are scared to watch it due to the many triggering scenes it contains: there are some scenes that are really tough to watch, especially if you know someone close to you who has suffered from substance abuse or if you’re also suffering from PTSD. It’s definitely a movie that deserves it’s R rating so please take this rating seriously. As a final thought maybe I just wanna say how thankful I am for Tom and the career path he’s chosen to take. This is such a special, raw, tragic but beautiful movie and he really shredded and completely lost himself in that role like I have never seen in my life before by any actor.
He is the moment, this movie is a freaking masterpiece and an absolute GIFT!🙏🏼🍒Alex
